About

you’re not special

This space was inspired by the kind of writing that makes you feel seen. The kind my mother has always done. Her words carried honesty and understanding. That vulnerability taught me that the truth doesn’t need polish to matter.

you’re not special bloomed from that same honesty. Shaped by the love of my sister. She was born with Down syndrome, and the world calls her “special.” She doesn’t see life through a label. Instead, she sees it through an unfiltered lens. Noting kindness before beauty and love before difference.

Her outlook on the world is something I aim to learn. you’re not special isn’t about being extraordinary. No, it’s about recognizing that life and all that it has to offer: love, loss, and human moments, belong to us all. We’re not special. We’re human.

That is more than enough.
